God’s Thoughts
Isaiah 55:8-9 reads, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
How Evil Turns Good
Isaiah cried, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!” (Isa. 5:20).
Open Home Meetings
After a wonderful summer of Sunday evening worship services, we are returning to our open home meeting schedule in September.
Foot Washing
I spoke with a friend of mine today who goes to an Independent Fundamental Baptist church. He told me he participated in his first “foot washing” last Sunday.
Interruptions
How was your week? Did you complete all the projects you planned? Cross out everything on your To-Do list? If you’re like me, you had to change your plans several times due to unexpected circumstances. Nothing ever goes exactly according to plan. That’s life.
Stuck in the Past
All of us struggle with regrets. We have all made mistakes we'd like to forget, but the past cannot be changed.
Praying During an Illness
Prayer lists and remembering the sick in our petitions to the Lord are time-honored traditions in the church. Not only that, these are biblical practices.
The Hardest Lock to Pick
William G. Patterson tells a good story about the time Harry Houdini finally faced a lock he couldn’t pick.
Lifespan: Quality over Quantity
Methuselah was the oldest man who ever lived. Nine hundred and sixty-nine years!
When Did ‘Patriarchy’ Become a Bad Word?
Like most of you who are reading this, I learned the word “patriarchy” in church.
I Don’t Know
Preachers and teachers of God’s word should never be afraid to admit when they are stumped. Some things in the Bible may never be grasped and other problems require years of contemplation before they can be understood.
All of a Piece
On the way to the house of a prominent ruler of a synagogue, Jesus encountered a poor woman who had suffered from an affliction for twelve years.
Colton’s First Sunday
This Sunday, Colton Wells will join us for the summer to work with us as our summer youth intern. He will be working with our young people for the next ten weeks. Be sure to welcome him to the family!
Farewell to the Kennamers
This Sunday will be Hunter's last day with us as our youth minister. He and Jennie joined us in January of 2018. For almost five years, they have been an important part of our congregation. We are grateful for their love and dedication, and we will miss them very much.
Too Much Sin in the Water
Over the last two weeks, seven souls have been added to the Lord at Ashville Road. We are so proud of these young people for the decision they have made and celebrate their new birth alongside their families. It has been a long time since we have seen this many obey the gospel in such a short period of time.
Obedience and Sacrifice
In the early days of the Israelite monarchy, God commanded Saul, “Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction all that they have. Do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey” (1 Samuel 15:3).
Stuck in Neverland
One of the most memorable scenes in Peter Pan involves Peter returning to the Darling’s nursery to retrieve his shadow and Wendy helping him sew it back onto his body.
