Our Ministers

  • Drew Kizer

    PULPIT MINISTER

Drew Kizer has preached for Ashville Road since 2000. He received a B.A. in Bible and a M.A. in New Testament from Freed-Hardeman University.

Drew has written several books. His latest, From Captives to the Cross, is a study of the restoration of Israel in Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther and is available through Riddle Creek Publishing.

In addition to his local work, Drew stays busy writing, podcasting, and speaking at lectureships, gospel meetings, and mission campaigns.

His eleven-year battle with early onset Parkinson’s Disease has given him perspective on how God gives strength through weakness. Drew likes to use his experience with chronic illness to help others who are in similar situations, especially those who suffer from PD.

Drew and his wife Julie have two children, Ava and Jackson. He is proud to be the son, son-in-law, and brother of gospel preachers.

Our Elders

  • Richard Box

“I think the members at Ashville Road are one of the congregation’s best qualities. There are so many caring people. Whenever there is a need, there are multiple people willing to pitch in and take care of things.”

Richard and his wife Maliea have been at Ashville Road since 1977. Richard has served as an elder since 2013.

  • Will Brooks

Will and his family began attending Ashville Road in 2017 and joined the eldership in 2022 after serving as a deacon with responsibilities over education, VBS, and Lads to Leaders. He is married to Jenni and has two daughters, Shelby and Rylee.

Will works at UAB where he is a curricular dean for the Heersink School of Medicine.

  • Kevin Dixon

“What I like most about Ashville Road is the way everyone looks after one another. They really love and care for each other. The love everyone has for the Lord’s work and the eagerness to help is very encouraging to me.”

Kevin and his wife June have been at Ashville Road since 1977. Kevin has served as an elder since 1995.

  • Jim Gaston

Jim was raised in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in East Tennessee and does not mind the term “Tennessee Hillbilly”.

After leaving the Navy in 1980, he took a job as close as he could get to his Tennessee home in Birmingham, bought a house in Moody, and began attending what was then called the Leeds Church of Christ.

Shortly after joining the Navy in 1975, Jim married his wife Sharon. They have four children, Jamie, Wayne, Erica, and Brynn.

Jim has served Ashville Road since 1995.
