Why Doesn't the Church of Christ Do That?

This has been around the block a few times, but I wanted to share it with those of you who may not have seen it. I saw it in the South Green Street Church of Christ Weekly Newsletter, and I understand that it was first printed in a bulletin published by the Elizebethtown church of Christ in Kentucky.

Mike Green, the preacher at Elizabethtown, writes,

When events take place on the national scene such as a natural disaster like hurricane Katrina, the news media often reports on efforts of denominational groups or other religious groups like the Salvation Army to alleviate the suffering and come to the aid of the victims. More than once on such occasions, I have heard comments from brethren like, "Why doesn't the church of Christ do that?" or "Where is the church of Christ?" ...

... "We sent a convoy of trucks this morning to the restricted area of Algiers, directly next to New Orleans...As these workers were going in, they were told at the police check that the churches of Christ are doing more than anyone else, even FEMA, as far as bringing goods and supplies to the people..."

Don't buy into pessimistic reports of the church's negligence. Some people are only interested in tearing down the Lord's church. But the Lord's people have always been benevolent. If you're listening, you are finding that to be the case.
