Vacation Bible Service

VBS stands for “Vacation Bible School,” but this year the “S” in VBS also stood for service. Every night, our kids worked on projects to serve our community. Many of you weren’t able to watch them working on these projects and may not know about what they were working on. Here’s a quick summary.

We’ve been collecting clothes for several weeks in preparation for VBS. Our kids sorted and folded the donations based on season and size, and we delivered them to Leeds Primary School. The school keeps a clothing closet there for students in need or if there’s ever an accident at school and a student needs a rescue outfit.

On another night, Constance Cobb came and spoke about her role in the military. Our kids wrote cards showing appreciation for the men and women who serve our country. Constance took the cards back to her base to pass out to show our appreciation for their service to our country.

Ann’s New Life Center in Leeds provides an important resource for expectant mothers in distress. Many of these mothers are encouraged to get an abortion, but Ann’s encourages them to choose life. They offer over 40 different “life” classes, and for each class completed mothers are given $20 “baby bucks” to shop the consignment store in the basement of the life center. Our kids helped sorting and bagging the hundreds of diaper donations that will be stocked in the store. Each bag of 12 diapers is $2 baby bucks.

By the way, if someone you know is expecting and needs financial assistance, support, education, counseling, or advice, Ann’s Life Center is a wonderful resource right here in our community. Learn more at: www.annsnewlifecenter.com.

Finally, the kids created dozens of beautiful cardboard signs for Leeds Outreach to be added in the weekly boxes that go out to the recipients. (We contribute food and supplies to Leeds Outreach every week.). The sign with our kids’ artwork will give recipients a little pick-me-up, a ray of sunshine for them to see when they open their box of goods.

We are proud of our kids for their hard work! Thanks to Bob and Melissa and everyone else who made this year’s VBS a success.
